1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord God concerning Edom: We have heard tidings from the Lord, and an ambassador is sent forth among the nations [saying], Arise, and let us rise up against [Edom] for battle!

Obadiah 1:2 (AMP)

2 Behold, I will make you small among the nations [Edom]; you shall be despised exceedingly.

3 The pride of your heart has deceived you, you dweller in the refuges of the rock [Petra, Edom’s capital], whose habitation is high, who says in his heart, Who can bring me down to the ground?

4 If you make your nest as high as an eagle’s, even if you place it among the stars, I will bring you down from there.” says the Lord.

Obadiah 1:5 (AMP)

5 If thieves came to you, if robbers by night—how you are brought to nothing!—would they not steal only enough for themselves? If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some grapes for gleaning? [But this ravaging was done by God, not men.]

Obadiah 1:6 (NIV)

6 But how Esau will be ransacked, his hidden treasures pillaged!

10 Because of the violence against your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame; you will be destroyed forever.

Obadiah 1:11 (NIV)

11 On the day you stood aloof while strangers carried off his wealth and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were like one of them.

Obadiah 1:12 (NIV)

12 You should not look down on your brother in the day of his misfortune, nor rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their destruction, nor boast so much in the day of their trouble.

Obadiah 1:13 (CJB)

13 or entered the gate of my people on their day of calamity — no, you shouldn’t have gloated over their suffering on their day of calamity or laid hands on their treasure on their day of calamity.

Obadiah 1:14 (AMP)

14 And you should not have stood at the crossway to cut off those of Judah who escaped, neither should you have delivered up those [of Judah] who remained in the day of distress.

Obadiah 1:15 (NIV)

15 “The day of the Lord is near for all nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head.

Obadiah 1:16 (NASB)

16 “Because just as you drank on My holy mountain, All the nations will drink continually. They will drink and swallow And become as if they had never existed.

Obadiah 1:17 (AMP)

17 But on Mount Zion [in Jerusalem] there shall be deliverance [for those who escape], and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess its [own former] possessions.

Obadiah 1:18 (AMP)

18 The house of Jacob shall be a fire and the house of Joseph a flame, but the house of Esau shall be stubble; they shall kindle and burn them and consume them, and there shall be no survivor of the house of Esau, for the Lord has spoken it.

Obadiah 1:19 (NIV)

19 People from the Negev will occupy the mountains of Esau, and people from the foothills will possess the land of the Philistines. They will occupy the fields of Ephraim and Samaria, and Benjamin will possess Gilead.

Obadiah 1:20 (NIV)

20 This company of Israelite exiles who are in Canaan will possess [the land] as far as Zarephath; the exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad will possess the towns of the Negev.
