1 Timothy Chapter 1

1 Timothy 1:1 (NKJV)

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope,

1 Timothy 1:2 (NKJV)

2 To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Timothy 1:3 (NIV)

3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer

1 Timothy 1:4 (NKJV)

4 nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith.

1 Timothy 1:5 (NIV)

5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

1 Timothy 1:6 (NASB)

6 For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussion,

1 Timothy 1:7 (NASB)

7 wanting to be teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions.

1 Timothy 1:8 (CJB)

8 We know that the Torah is good, provided one uses it in the way the Torah itself intends.

1 Timothy 1:9 (NIV)

9 We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,

1 Timothy 1:10 (NIV)

10 for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers–and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine

1 Timothy 1:11 (NASB)

11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.

1 Timothy 1:12 (NKJV)

12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry,

1 Timothy 1:13 (NKJV)

13 although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

1 Timothy 1:14 (NIV)

14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 1:15 (NASB)

15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.

1 Timothy 1:16 (NIV)

16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.

1 Timothy 1:17 (NASB)

17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

1 Timothy 1:18 (NKJV)

18 This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,

1 Timothy 1:19 (NIV)

19 holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith.

1 Timothy 1:20 (NASB)

20 Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan, so that they will be taught not to blaspheme.

1 Timothy Chapter 2

1 Timothy 2:1 (NASB)

1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,

1 Timothy 2:2 (CJB)

2 including kings and all in positions of prominence; so that we may lead quiet and peaceful lives, being godly and upright in everything.

1 Timothy 2:3 (NASB)

3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

1 Timothy 2:4 (NASB)

4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

1 Timothy 2:5 (NIV)

5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

1 Timothy 2:6 (CJB)

6 who gave himself as a ransom on behalf of all, thus providing testimony to God’s purpose at just the right time.

1 Timothy 2:7 (NIV)

7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle–I am telling the truth, I am not lying–and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.

1 Timothy 2:8 (NASB)

8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.

1 Timothy 2:9 (AMP)

9 Also [I desire] that women should adorn themselves modestly and appropriately and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with [elaborate] hair arrangement or gold or pearls or expensive clothing,

1 Timothy 2:10 (CJB)

10 Rather, they should adorn themselves with what is appropriate for women who claim to be worshipping God, namely, good deeds.

1 Timothy 2:11 (NIV)

11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.

1 Timothy 2:12 (NIV)

12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.

1 Timothy 2:13 (NIV)

13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

1 Timothy 2:14 (NKJV)

14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

1 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)

15 But women will be saved through childbearing–if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

1 Timothy Chapter 3

1 Timothy 3:1 (NIV)

1 Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task.

1 Timothy 3:2 (NIV)

2 Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

1 Timothy 3:3 (NIV)

3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

1 Timothy 3:4 (NIV)

4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect.

1 Timothy 3:5 (NASB)

5 (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?),

1 Timothy 3:6 (NKJV)

6 not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

1 Timothy 3:7 (NASB)

7 And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

1 Timothy 3:8 (NIV)

8 Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain.

1 Timothy 3:9 (NASB)

9 but holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.

1 Timothy 3:10 (NIV)

10 They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.

1 Timothy 3:11 (NIV)-M

11 In the same way, the deacon’s wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.

1 Timothy 3:12 (NASB)

12 Deacons must be husbands of only one wife, and good managers of their children and their own households.

1 Timothy 3:13 (NASB)

13 For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 3:14 (NKJV)

14 These things I write to you, though I hope to come to you shortly;

1 Timothy 3:15 (NKJV)

15 but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

1 Timothy 3:16 (CJB)

16 Great beyond all question is the formerly hidden truth underlying our faith: He was manifested physically and proved righteous spiritually, seen by angels and proclaimed among the nations, trusted throughout the world and raised up in glory to heaven.

1 Timothy Chapter 4

1 Timothy 4:1 (NIV)

1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

1 Timothy 4:2 (NIV)

2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

1 Timothy 4:3 (CJB)

3 They forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods which God created to be eaten with thanksgiving by those who have come to trust and to know the truth.

1 Timothy 4:4 (NIV)

4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

1 Timothy 4:5 (NASB)

5 for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.

1 Timothy 4:6 (NASB)

6 In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.

1 Timothy 4:7 (NIV)

7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.

1 Timothy 4:8 (CJB)

8 For although physical exercise does have some value, godliness is valuable for everything, since it holds promise both for the present life and for the life to come.

1 Timothy 4:9 (NIV)

9 This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance

1 Timothy 4:10 (NKJV)

10 For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.

1 Timothy 4:11 (AMP)

11 Continue to command these things and to teach them.

1 Timothy 4:12 (AMP)

12 Let no one despise or think less of you because of your youth, but be an example (pattern) for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.

1 Timothy 4:13 (NASB)

13 Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching.

1 Timothy 4:14 (AMP)

14 Do not neglect the gift which is in you, [that special inward endowment] which was directly imparted to you [by the Holy Spirit] by prophetic utterance when the elders laid their hands upon you [at your ordination].

1 Timothy 4:15 (NIV)

15 Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.

1 Timothy 4:16 (NIV)

16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

1 Timothy Chapter 5

1 Timothy 5:1 (NIV)

1 Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers,

1 Timothy 5:2 (AMP)

2 [Treat] older women like mothers [and] younger women like sisters, in all purity.

1 Timothy 5:3 (AMP)

3 [Always] treat with great consideration and give aid to those who are truly widowed (solitary and without support).

1 Timothy 5:4 (AMP)

4 But if a widow has children or grandchildren, see to it that these are first made to understand that it is their religious duty [to defray their natural obligation to those] at home, and make return to their parents or grandparents [for all their care by contributing to their maintenance], for this is acceptable in the sight of God.

1 Timothy 5:5 (NIV)

5 The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help.

1 Timothy 5:6 (AMP)

6 Whereas she who lives in pleasure and self-gratification [giving herself up to luxury and self-indulgence] is dead even while she [still] lives.

1 Timothy 5:7 (CJB)

7 And instruct them about this, so that they will not be open to blame.

1 Timothy 5:8 (NASB)-M

8 But if any [laymen] does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

1 Timothy 5:9 (NIV)

9 No widow may be put on the list of widows unless she is over sixty, has been faithful to her husband,

1 Timothy 5:10 (NIV)

10 and is well known for her good deeds, such as bringing up children, showing hospitality, washing the feet of the saints, helping those in trouble and devoting herself to all kinds of good deeds.

1 Timothy 5:11 (NIV)

11 As for younger widows, do not put them on such a list. For when their sensual desires overcome their dedication to Christ, they want to marry.

1 Timothy 5:12 (NIV)

12 Thus they bring judgment on themselves, because they have broken their first pledge.

1 Timothy 5:13 (NIV)

13 Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to.

1 Timothy 5:14 (NIV)

14 So I counsel younger widows to marry, to have children, to manage their homes and to give the enemy no opportunity for slander.

1 Timothy 5:15 (AMP)

15 For already some [widows] have turned aside after Satan.

1 Timothy 5:16 (NIV)

16 If any woman who is a believer has widows in her family, she should help them and not let the church be burdened with them, so that the church can help those widows who are really in need.

1 Timothy 5:17 (AMP)

17 Let the elders who perform the duties of their office well be considered doubly worthy of honor [and of adequate financial support], especially those who labor faithfully in preaching and teaching.

1 Timothy 5:18 (NIV)

18 For the Scripture says, “Do not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain,” and “The worker deserves his wages.”

1 Timothy 5:19 (CJB)

19 Never listen to any accusation against a leader unless it is supported by two or three witnesses.

1 Timothy 5:20 (NIV)

20 Those who sin are to be rebuked publicly, so that the others may take warning.

1 Timothy 5:21 (NIV)

21 I charge you, in the sight of God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, to keep these instructions without partiality, and to do nothing out of favoritism.

1 Timothy 5:22 (AMP)

22 Do not be in a hurry in the laying on of hands [giving the sanction of the church too hastily in reinstating expelled offenders or in ordination in questionable cases], nor share or participate in another man’s sins; keep yourself pure.

1 Timothy 5:23 (NASB)

23 No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.

1 Timothy 5:24 (AMP)

24 The sins of some men are conspicuous (openly evident to all eyes), going before them to the judgment [seat] and proclaiming their sentence in advance; but the sins of others appear later [following the offender to the bar of judgment and coming into view there].

1 Timothy 5:25 (AMP)

25 So also, good deeds are evident and conspicuous, and even when they are not, they cannot remain hidden [indefinitely].

1 Timothy Chapter 6

1 Timothy 6:1 (CJB)

1 Those who are under the yoke of slavery should regard their masters as worthy of full respect, so that the name of God and the teaching will not be brought into disrepute.

1 Timothy 6:2 (CJB)

2 And those who have believing masters are not to show them less respect on the ground that they are brothers; on the contrary, they should serve all the more diligently, since those benefiting from their service are believers whom they love. Teach and exhort people about these things.

1 Timothy 6:3 (NIV)

3 If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching,

1 Timothy 6:4 (NIV)

4 he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions

1 Timothy 6:5 (NIV)

5 and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

1 Timothy 6:6 (NASB)

6 But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.

1 Timothy 6:7 (NIV)

7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.

1 Timothy 6:8 (NIV)

8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.

1 Timothy 6:9 (NKJV)

9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.

1 Timothy 6:10 (NKJV)

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:11 (NKJV)

11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.

1 Timothy 6:12 (NIV)

12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:13 (CJB)

13 I charge you before God, who gives life to all things, and before the Messiah Jesus, who in his witness to Pontius Pilate gave the same good testimony,

1 Timothy 6:14 (NIV)

14 to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

1 Timothy 6:15 (CJB)

15 His appearing will be brought about in its own time by the blessed and sole Sovereign, who is King of kings and Lord of lords,

1 Timothy 6:16 (CJB)

16 who alone is immortal, who dwells in unapproachable light that no human being has ever seen or can see — to him be honor and eternal power. Amen.

1 Timothy 6:17 (NIV)

17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

1 Timothy 6:18 (CJB)

18 Charge them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, to be generous and ready to share.

1 Timothy 6:19 (AMP)

19 In this way laying up for themselves [the riches that endure forever as] a good foundation for the future, so that they may grasp that which is life indeed.

1 Timothy 6:20 (CJB)

20 Oh, Timothy! Keep safe what has been entrusted to you. Turn away from the ungodly babblings and the argumentative opposition of what is falsely called “knowledge.”

1 Timothy 6:21 (NKJV)

21 by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith. Grace be with you. Amen.
