Gas Range Splashguard

Gas Range Splash Guard

My wife wanted me to place some PVC sheet behind her gas range in order to protect the wall from splatters. Splattered cooking oil or sauces can leave the wall dirty but it is harder to clean when there are grout lines between the tiles (which require extra effort for cleanup). This sheet of PVC plastic makes the cleanup easy because it has a smooth surface that can be easily wiped down and is nonstick for most food splatters.

Velcro Tabs to hold Acrylic Sheet in Place

I also cut some Velcro tabs and placed them on the PVC sheet in order to fasten the sheet to the wall keeping it flat and tight without sagging.

Remote Control Velcro

I just cut some tabs out of some Velcro strips (normally used to mount remote controls). These worked well and have a strong bond on both the tile wall and have a strong hold on the smooth surface of the PVC sheet as well.

Cutting Velcro

I cut the strips into three segments and placed on the PVC sheet in three spots. Exposing the adhesive after mounting it to the PVC sheet allowed me to press the PVC sheet into the exact position after it was cut to size.

Bulge in the Attached Sheet

I found that the sheet was a bit tight on the bottom so his created a bulge in the sheet. So, I had to trim it off and this relieved the stress causing the sheet to lay flat against the wall.

Sheet Fitted and Flattened

After trimming the bottom edge, it now fits perfectly and the bulge is removed. Part of developing the masculine logic of boys is to teach them how to fix problems that they will come across in every project that they do. This was a simple fix and I did not even have to remove the Velcro tabs on the bottom. I only trimmed a slight strip off the bottom and it was just enough to fix the bulge. All of these projects are designed to help develop the masculine logic of boys for problem solving.

Also using this PVC sheet found many various uses. My wife also asked me to make a splashguard around her induction stove for use on her kitchen table.

See the link “Induction Stove Splashguard” for more details.

Again, each project opens the mind of the boys to think of other uses for the same materials and how to utilize the techniques that they learned in previous projects to accomplish increasingly more advanced creations. It is all focused-on teaching boys to move progressively to more complex projects while building upon the knowledge they gained in past projects.
