USB Stand LED Ring Light

Multipurpose LED Lighting

This light serves in a multipurpose-role because I keep in at the entrance of our apartment which works well because the automatic “motion-detection” light mounted in the ceiling frequently shuts off automatically when we need it and leaves us in the dark. So I can turn on this LED stand-light when we need to have light when the ceiling light goes off.

Secondly this light is made for taking Smartphone video and images. It works well for this purpose and removes any shadows by having a “circle” of light surround the Smartphone when doing photos or video. There are three different light-settings which work well for “human facial lighting” when posting videos or images on Utube.

Last of all, I am able to use this light and stand with a portable workbench outside of my door so I can cut some wood or other materials without getting dust on my computer equipment in my office. This is a great advantage and it is easier to clean up outside the door in the hallway than when all of my office furniture and computer equipment becomes dusty by working inside.

There is a ball-joint in the stand that allows this LED light ring to be adjusted at any angle. There is also a Smartphone holder that allows the phone to be positioned within a ring of light. This is effective for removing all shadows when taking images or video.

The stand can be adjusted up to 2.1 meters high and the head will swivel a full 360-degrees.

Adjustable Brightness

This USB stand-light has multiple settings with the highest setting creating a bright white light which is effective at driving away shadows when taking images. It also has various settings for different facial-lighting when taking human facial images. This same light also can be used as a shop-light when working on a portable workbench outside the door in the hallway.

Adjustable Head Position

The head can be adjusted to hold the Smartphone and camera with the light positioned in a downward angle for taking photos of items on a table top or it can hold the camera and lighting perfectly still for taking video footage as well.

USB Light Energized by Computer

This USB light-stand has the advantage of being energized by any USB port (including the USB ports found on a computer).

USB Power Cord 10M

I did not have any electrical wall-outlets located in the inside entrance to our apartment but I found this 10-meter long USB power cord and I was able to plug this into the electrical outlet in my office room and then run this USB cable to the light-stand located in the entrance. The cord is also long enough to allow positioning of the light-stand outside my door with ample length to provide lighting for my workbench (when I need to work on something outside in the hallway).

USB Female Receptacle

The LED light-stand operates using an USB cord which plugs into the female USB receptacle of this 10-meter power supply cord.

USB Charger Adapter

I happened to have a USB charger adapter that provides an USB-port for charging my Smartphone. This was included with the Samsung Smartphone that I purchased a few years ago. This USB adaptor is useful for plugging in this 10-meter USB power supply into an electrical outlet so I could run this USB cord from my office electrical outlet to the front entrance and also into the outside hallway.

Fixing USB Power Cord

I fixed the USB power cord in place using double-sided sticky tape (and later some epoxy in some places) so that we would not trip over it when it crosses in front of the bathroom.

USB Power Cord by Door Entrance

I ran the cord along the wall and along the threshold of our door entrance and held it in place with D/S sticky tape. The excess cord is rolled up under the tripod of the light stand. This excess cord allows me to open the front door and carry the light stand outside to serve as a shop-light whenever I need to work on materials in the hallway outside of our front door.

LED Light Plugged into USB Power Cord

Above the LED light is plugged into the USB power cord and can be used in the entrance or even in the outside hall or anyplace where the light is needed.

Using a Power Cord Option

Samsung USB Adaptor Used With Power Cord

It should be noted however that the USB adaptor can also be plugged into a long electrical extension cord and then one power-cord could energize both the light-stand as well as energize power tools also.

Electrical Cord Energizing Both USB Light and Power Tool

Any of the power tools can be plugged into an electrical extension cord together with the USB adaptor (to energize the USB light-stand). However, I had to lower the light stand in order for the USB cord to reach the adaptor.

LED Light Stand Used at Entrance

In my case however, I wanted to use this USB cable for energizing this LED light-stand in order to keep it positioned in our apartment entrance all of the time. This USB cable is lighter and of smaller diameter than a long electrical extension cord so I installed this USB cord in a semi-permanent manner along the wall edges using both DS-sticky tape (and in some spots – adhesive). This light is handy to have at the entrance when the motion detector-light repeatedly shuts off and leaves us in the dark.

LED Light Secured with Small Bungee

This LED light is lightweight and somewhat fragile so I secured it with a small bungee cord in the event we accidently trip on the stand and knock it over. I however did accidently knock it over once when I was trying to plug in the USB power supply cord. It fell flat on its face but I was surprised that it did not break but it still works fine. I expected that it would be destroyed if it happened to fall over but this was not the case. However, I do not want that to happen again so I secured it with this small bungee cord in order to hold it in place. But I can easily disconnect the bungee cord when I need to bring the light-stand outside to use as a work-light.

Overall, I am very pleased with this light because it is “multipurpose” and can be used for taking Smartphone images or video and also for an entrance light or for an outside shop-light. We should teach our boys under our training program that they should obtain tools (whenever possible) that are “multipurpose” so they can use them for more than one thing. This is especially true if they live in an apartment and do not have access to a workshop (with ample places for tool storage). They should make do with what they have available at home and work with the situation they have found themselves under until they can expand or improve in the future when they have their own shop (with proper tool-storage) when their money allows for it.
