Dropping Manhood

When men drop their divine purpose then it is like a soldier dropping his weapon on the ground. God has created men to be leaders and providers and protectors of their own families. When they fail to fulfill their God-given roles as men then they become “effeminate” and all society will suffer.

Society needs real men more than ever but if men surrender their masculinity, then it is like a knight surrendering his sword to the enemy. Never should men ever allow any reprobate society to shame them for being masculine. Masculinity is not toxic but in fact is the most important aspect of having a functional society. Without real men (and their strong leadership) then all society will collapse into complete ruination.

In fact, the man is the most important part of the family unit and the most important segment of all society. Without strong male leadership the family will disintegrate and all society will become reprobate and collapse.

Dropping Manly Leadership

When a man drops his leadership role then it is the same as if he has dropped his manhood (like the soldier dropping his weapon in the dirt). Even in civil leadership roles (like a congressman or senator) there are some good men who have resigned because they felt that it was of no use to continue to try anymore. Many of these good men were slandered incessantly (by liberal women and beta male eunuchs) with false accusations and all kinds of slander being stirred up like a bunch of squawking hens flapping their wings and stirring up dust! Many times, good men will be worn down by the constant attacks until they say, “What is the use anymore?” and just resign their positions and go and retire and pursue hobbies and live their own lives. But whenever a good man resigns (or is harassed out of office) then he leaves his authority to the imbeciles and dumb-chicken types of people who are lusting to gain political power. This is how the most worthless people end up running the government after they have successfully run off strong male leadership and then take-over the leadership void created when these real men resign.

Never should good men resign their positions if God has placed them there. They are to remain faithful and steady and not be moved no matter how many arrows of slander are shot at them. If they leave office then there will be no godly leadership left and the entire nation can fall into ruination when fools take over the government and make destructive decisions in unhindered manner.

God will hold men accountable if they drop their leadership only because someone caused them to quit by feminine tricks of name-calling or false accusations or slander or hit pieces written by the liberal media to defame them. If they allow Jezebel tricks to run them off then they are giving these (pathetic and weak usurpers of authority) their civil power and just hand it over to them on a silver platter!

The bible has recorded the human failings of many men who have dropped their leadership and this biblical account shows the negative consequences that come whenever a godly man drops his leadership and this causes evil to prevail in the land.

Biblical Examples of Dropped Male Leadership

Jacob is one example of a man who dropped his leadership when he was not fully obedient to what God had directed him to do.

Genesis 31:3 (NKJV)

3 Then the LORD said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers and to your family, and I will be with you.”

God specifically instructed Jacob to return to the land of his fathers (Abraham and Isaac) and specifically to return to his own family. This meant that he should return to Hebron because his aged father Isaac was still living in Hebron at this time and this is where he had left from as a young man when he first left to go to Paddan Aram in Syria to find a wife.

Genesis 35:27-29 (NIV)

27 Jacob came home to his father Isaac in Mamre, near Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.

28 Isaac lived a hundred and eighty years.

29 Then he breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people, old and full of years. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

A long time later (after his bad episode at Shechem) Jacob finally returned to his home place of his family in Mamre in Hebron. At this time his father Isaac was still living and Jacob was present when his father Isaac died at age 180-years. It was amazing that Isaac thought he would die back when Jacob was a young single man and when he sent him to find a wife in Syria. But in Syria Jacob had twelve sons and a big family clan by the time he finally returned to Hebron and found his father Isaac was still alive.

The point to make here is that God had kept Isaac alive until he could see his son Jacob again. Possibly God allowed Isaac a long-life so he could see also this 12-grandsons and know that the promises of God had been fulfilled about God increasing his family line greatly.

Jacob should have returned to Hebron as soon as he crossed the Jordan river upon his return from Syria with his family. But instead (for some unknown reason) Jacob made a terrible mistake of settling near the Canaanite town of Shechem (instead of returning to Hebron) as he should have done.

Genesis 33:18-19 (NIV)

18 After Jacob came from Paddan Aram, he arrived safely at the city of Shechem in Canaan and camped within sight of the city.

19 For a hundred pieces of silver, he bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, the plot of ground where he pitched his tent.

Here Jacob purchased a lot of ground where he placed his tent which was located within sight of the city of Shechem. In doing so, Jacob put his family at risk by living near the Canaanites who had no fear of God and did not obey the laws of God and were godless people.

Tragedy Strikes in Shechem

The first thing that occurred in Shechem was that the daughter of Jacob was raped the first time that she went outside to meet the other girls in the land.

Genesis 34:1-2 (NIV)

1 Now Dinah, the daughter Leah had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the women of the land.

2 When Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, the ruler of that area, saw her, he took her and violated her.

The son of Hamor named Shechem raped the daughter of Jacob. Although the scripture says that Shechem was attracted to the girl this does not mean that he loved her because a man does not rape by force a girl that he loves but will instead marry her in honorable manner.

Genesis 34:20-24 (NIV)

20 So Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their city to speak to their fellow townsmen.

21 “These men are friendly toward us,” they said. “Let them live in our land and trade in it; the land has plenty of room for them. We can marry their daughters and they can marry ours.

22 But the men will consent to live with us as one people only on the condition that our males be circumcised, as they themselves are.

23 Won’t their livestock, their property and all their other animals become ours? So let us give our consent to them, and they will settle among us.”

24 All the men who went out of the city gate agreed with Hamor and his son Shechem, and every male in the city was circumcised.

It seems that the true motives of Shechem were exposed when he spoke to the men of the city of Shechem and asked them to be circumcised so that they could intermarry with the Hebrews. Shechem clearly told these men that the livestock and property and their other animals belonging to the Hebrews would become theirs. This means they had ulterior motives in wanting to gain the wealth of the Hebrew clan for themselves.

Possibly the rape committed by Shechem was part of this plan. Maybe Shechem thought that if this girl were defiled by him then she would have no other option except to marry him (since the door would be close to other future suitors). Shechem may have thought that he could have access to the wealth and livestock of Jacob’s family clan if he could manage to become a son-in-law to Jacob.

Plundering the Pirates

Genesis 34:25-29 (NIV)

25 Three days later, while all of them were still in pain, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, took their swords and attacked the unsuspecting city, killing every male.

26 They put Hamor and his son Shechem to the sword and took Dinah from Shechem’s house and left.

27 The sons of Jacob came upon the dead bodies and looted the city where their sister had been defiled.

28 They seized their flocks and herds and donkeys and everything else of theirs in the city and out in the fields.

29 They carried off all their wealth and all their women and children, taking as plunder everything in the houses.

Then Simeon and Levi (the brothers of Dinah) came upon the city of Shechem and killed every man in that town when they were too weak to fight (when they were still sore from their circumcision). They plundered everything that the Canaanites had just as these same people had wanted to plunder the goods of Jacob’s family clan by deceit.

Simeon and Levi took their sister out of the house of Shechem after they had killed him and his father. The fact that Dinah was still in the house of Shechem shows that Jacob did not protest having his daughter to marry a Canaanite. This was a gross breach of etiquette with God because Jacob was to keep himself and his family separate from the idolatrous Canaanites. Jacob originally left the land of Canna to seek a wife within his mother’s family in Syria. This was done so that he would not marry a Canaanite woman. But now Jacob did nothing while his own daughter was taken as a wife by a Canaanite ruler in Shechem.

Passivity of Jacob

The passivity of Jacob seems to be contrary to his nature as an overcomer. Jacob was the same man who was renamed as “Israel” when he overcame with both God and man. But now the first thing he did when entering the Promised Land was to drift over to settle near Shechem instead of returning to his father Isaac in Hebron. All of his sorrows began in Shechem (a place where he should not have been in the first place).

Jacob Dropping Leadership

Genesis 34:5 (NIV)

5 When Jacob heard that his daughter Dinah had been defiled, his sons were in the fields with his livestock; so he kept quiet about it until they came home.

When Dinah was defiled by a Canaanite then Jacob did nothing and was quiet about it and waited until his sons came home from the fields. There is a passive attitude evident here in that Jacob did nothing and said nothing. It was as if he was passively waiting for his sons to make a decision about it. Jacob doing nothing was the same as him “putting the ball into their court” to let his sons decide what to do. At this time Jacob showed no leadership in this matter.

Apparently, Jacob did nothing when Dinah was sent to live in the household of Shechem as his wife and thus he lost his family separation to God by his family marrying into a pagan clan.

The point to make here is that when a man does nothing and says nothing then he is actually making a decision by default. Such a man is giving the leadership to others (to whoever will stand up and take action).

Genesis 34:30-31 (NIV)

30 Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have brought trouble on me by making me a stench to the Canaanites and Perizzites, the people living in this land. We are few in number, and if they join forces against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed.”

31 But they replied, “Should he have treated our sister like a prostitute?”

Later Jacob was angry with Simeon and Levi and even pronounced a curse upon them. He accused them of making him odious to the Canaanites and Perizzites and all of the people living in the land. Jacob was afraid a civil war would break out that would exterminate his entire family clan in revenge for the deaths at Shechem. This behavior however was not displaying any faith in God for protection. God would not permit the family clan of Jacob to be destroyed.

Genesis 35:5-6 (NIV)

5 Then they set out, and the terror of God fell upon the towns all around them so that no one pursued them.

6 Jacob and all the people with him came to Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.

God told Jacob to leave that place in Shechem (a place he should never had been in the first place) because he should not have settled among pagans and intermarried with them.

When Jacob and his family set out from Shechem then the terror of God fell upon all of the towns in that region so that no pagans pursued them. God did this to protect Jacob and his family line because through their descendants the Messiah would later be born upon the earth.

So, the passivity of Jacob was evident when he passively went to Shechem instead of returning home to Hebron as God commanded him. Then he was passive when his daughter was defiled by pagans. He evidently did nothing and took no leadership in the home and threw the decision to his sons by default. Then he complained when Simeon and Levi took action and destroyed the pagan pirates who defiled their sister. But Simeon and Levi forced a separation from these wicked pagan people and thus preserved the purity of their family line (from which the Messiah would be born).

Jacob could have lost everything if he had remained in Shechem and allowed his family to be absorbed by inter-marriage with the pagans and thus the “righteous seed” would have been lost.

When a man does nothing and says nothing then this is an invitation for others to take action. This is an example of dropping his leadership (like a soldier dropping his weapon in the dirt). Manhood and leadership are synonymous and a man loses his manhood whenever he passively drops his leadership.

Beta Male Allowing His Wife to Lead

A beta-male is the opposite of an Alpha-male because a beta male is weak and refuses to accept responsibility and lets others around him make the decisions. This is opposite of the character of an “Alpha-male” who is assertive and does what is right and makes the decisions in manly manner.

Ahab the Beta Male

The bible records all of the sins and weaknesses and short-comings of the bible characters so that we can learn from their mistakes and determine not to do the same things. Ahab is no exception and his life is a testimony of a man who failed when he allowed his wife to usurp authority in the home. Jezebel is also synonymous with a woman usurper of authority and any woman who behaves like her is said to harbor a “Jezebel-spirt!”

1 Kings 21:1-4 (NIV)

1 Some time later there was an incident involving a vineyard belonging to Naboth the Jezreelite. The vineyard was in Jezreel, close to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

2 Ahab said to Naboth, “Let me have your vineyard to use for a vegetable garden, since it is close to my palace. In exchange I will give you a better vineyard or, if you prefer, I will pay you whatever it is worth.”

3 But Naboth replied, “The LORD forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my fathers.”

4 So Ahab went home, sullen and angry because Naboth the Jezreelite had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” He lay on his bed sulking and refused to eat.

The behavior of a man can speak volumes about what is happening behind the scenes. In this case, King Ahab wanted to have the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite for a vegetable garden since it was beside his own palace. But Naboth refused to sell his vineyard or trade it because this land was received as inheritance from his fathers and he wanted to pass it on to his own sons as well. Naboth told Ahab, “God forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my fathers!”

When Ahab’s plan was rejected then he went home sullen and angry and he lay on his bed sulking like a little boy and he refused to eat! This is the behavior of a beta-male who is throwing his leadership to others and allows them to make the decisions for him.

1 Kings 21:5-7 (NIV)

5 His wife Jezebel came in and asked him, “Why are you so sullen? Why won’t you eat?”

6 He answered her, “Because I said to Naboth the Jezreelite, ‘Sell me your vineyard; or if you prefer, I will give you another vineyard in its place.’ But he said, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’”

7 Jezebel his wife said, “Is this how you act as king over Israel? Get up and eat! Cheer up. I’ll get you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.”

Ahab dropped his leadership and dropped his manhood and lay on his bed and pouted. This was a signal to his wife Jezebel that he wanted his wife to take action for him. The name “Jezebel” has become notorious for a woman who usurps authority within the home. But in the case of Ahab, he was entirely throwing his leadership to Jezebel by laying there and doing nothing. Jezebel immediately said she would get the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite for Ahab. Ahab did not question her about what she was about to do and he did not forbid her but instead allowed her free-reign to do whatever she wanted.

1 Kings 21:8-10 (NIV)

8 So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, placed his seal on them, and sent them to the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city with him.

9 In those letters she wrote: “Proclaim a day of fasting and seat Naboth in a prominent place among the people.

10 But seat two scoundrels opposite him and have them testify that he has cursed both God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death.”

Jezebel then wrote letters in the name of Ahab and placed his seal upon them, thus authorizing them as having come from the king. She instructed the elders and nobles in that city to proclaim a fast and seat Naboth in a prominent place at the feast among the people.

Writing letters in the name of Ahab and authorizing them with his signet ring and seal shows that Ahab had entirely dropped his leadership and Jezebel was using his authority to do whatever she wanted. Jezebel was a pagan woman but she found a position of authority to rule the nation of Israel through King Ahab who was a passive and weak beta-male who allowed his wife to do whatever she wanted. It was Jezebel who was running the country rather than her weak and passive husband Ahab.

1 Kings 21:11-14 (NIV)

11 So the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city did as Jezebel directed in the letters she had written to them.

12 They proclaimed a fast and seated Naboth in a prominent place among the people.

13 Then two scoundrels came and sat opposite him and brought charges against Naboth before the people, saying, “Naboth has cursed both God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death.

14 Then they sent word to Jezebel: “Naboth has been stoned and is dead.”

The orders sent by Jezebel were obeyed and Naboth was seated in a prominent position at the feast and this caused jealousy in the hearts of the people. Then two lying scoundrels slandered Naboth saying he had cursed both God and the king. This gave the now jealous citizens all the excuse they needed to take Naboth out and stone him to death.

Those operating by a Jezebel spirit typically utilize lies and slander to do away with good men. They can manipulate a crowd to do their dirty work for them. They can bribe and cheat and manipulate leaders to do their bidding. So, this is how Jezebel ran the country using the usurped authority of her husband Ahab the king.

1 Kings 21:15 (NIV)

15 As soon as Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to Ahab, “Get up and take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite that he refused to sell you. He is no longer alive, but dead.”

So, the plan worked as predicted and Naboth was murdered and Ahab went to take possession of his vineyard. But this murder was in fact not only limited to Naboth but also his sons who stood as heirs to his property after his death.

2 Kings 9:24-26 (NIV)

24 Then Jehu drew his bow and shot Joram between the shoulders. The arrow pierced his heart and he slumped down in his chariot.

25 Jehu said to Bidkar, his chariot officer, “Pick him up and throw him on the field that belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite. Remember how you and I were riding together in chariots behind Ahab his father when the LORD made this prophecy about him:

26 ‘Yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons, declares the LORD, and I will surely make you pay for it on this plot of ground, declares the LORD.’ Now then, pick him up and throw him on that plot, in accordance with the word of the LORD.”

Later the son of Ahab (named Joram) was killed by Jehu who shot him with an arrow through the heart as he attempted to escape in his chariot. Jehu killed Joram right next to the plot of land formerly belonging to Naboth. So, Jehu discarded the carcass of Joram the son of Ahab upon this lot which had formerly belonged to Naboth. It is here that we see that God saw the blood of Naboth and the blood of the sons of Naboth and declared they would be atoned for on this very plot of stolen land. This is the first evidence that shows that the murder accomplished by Jezebel not only included the death of Naboth the owner of the vineyard but also his sons (the future heirs of that same vineyard). Jezebel had the sons of Naboth put to death also so that there would be no one left living who could inherit that land. Thus, she said that Ahab could take this land freely since the owner and his sons (the heirs) were all dead.

1 Kings 21:16-26 (NIV)

16 When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up and went down to take possession of Naboth’s vineyard.

17 Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite:

18 “Go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who rules in Samaria. He is now in Naboth’s vineyard, where he has gone to take possession of it.

19 Say to him, ‘This is what the LORD says: Have you not murdered a man and seized his property?’ Then say to him, ‘This is what the LORD says: In the place where dogs licked up Naboth’s blood, dogs will lick up your blood–yes, yours!’”

20 Ahab said to Elijah, “So you have found me, my enemy!” “I have found you,” he answered, “because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD.

21 ‘I am going to bring disaster on you. I will consume your descendants and cut off from Ahab every last male in Israel–slave or free.

22 I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat and that of Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have provoked me to anger and have caused Israel to sin.’

23 “And also concerning Jezebel the LORD says: ‘Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.’

24 “Dogs will eat those belonging to Ahab who die in the city, and the birds of the air will feed on those who die in the country.”

25 (There was never a man like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD, urged on by Jezebel his wife.

26 He behaved in the vilest manner by going after idols, like the Amorites the LORD drove out before Israel.)

After Jezebel arranged the murders of Naboth and his living heirs then she informed Ahab and said he could take possession of the vineyard because Naboth (and his heirs) were all dead.

But God saw what happened and he sent the prophet Elijah to rebuke this king. Notice that Elijah said that Ahab murdered these men (not Jezebel). This means when a man is passive and he drops his leadership in the home (and allows his wife to do whatever she wants) then God will judge the man for his sin first (not the wife). It is the man’s fault for allowing his wife to do whatever she wants when he has the authority within his own household.

First the judgement would come upon Ahab and after he was removed then the judgment would fall upon Jezebel. This actually occurred when Ahab was killed in battle and later Jezebel was thrown from an upper story window and trampled by horses and eaten by wild dogs. A fitting end to a wicked woman who was usurping the authority of her husband King Ahab.

1 Kings 21:27-29 (NIV)

27 When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and fasted. He lay in sackcloth and went around meekly.

28 Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite:

29 “Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son.”

The reason that the son of Ahab was killed and tossed into the stolen vineyard was because Ahab humbled himself greatly and thus delayed his own judgment for a time. He had killed the sons of Naboth by not restraining his wife so now his own son was killed and his blood was used to make atonement for the murder that took place under the instigation of Jezebel.

1 Kings 22:17-23 (NIV)

17 Then Micaiah answered, “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd, and the LORD said, ‘These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.’”

18 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he never prophesies anything good about me, but only bad?”

19 Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the host of heaven standing around him on his right and on his left.

20 And the LORD said, ‘Who will entice Ahab into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?’ “One suggested this, and another that.

21 Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD and said, ‘I will entice him.’

22 ” ‘By what means?’ the LORD asked. ” ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,’ he said. ” ‘You will succeed in enticing him,’ said the LORD. ‘Go and do it.’

23 “So now the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours. The LORD has decreed disaster for you.”

Despite Ahab humbling himself after the rebuke of Elijah, God still had to bring judgment because of the large amount of innocent blood shed by Jezebel through the passivity of Ahab as King. So, the prophet Micaiah revealed that God had caused a lying spirit to deceive the prophets of Ahab who all predicted success for Ahab in battle. But this false prophecy only served to cause Ahab to go to war and this is where he was killed in battle.

It should be noted that Ahab perished in battle first before his wife Jezebel later met with her own demise. Jezebel was killed by Jehu shortly after her son Joram was executed by Jehu.

2 Kings 9:30-32 (NIV)

30 Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she painted her eyes, arranged her hair and looked out of a window.

31 As Jehu entered the gate, she asked, “Have you come in peace, Zimri, you murderer of your master?”

32 He looked up at the window and called out, “Who is on my side? Who?” Two or three eunuchs looked down at him.

Jehu arrived at the palace in Jezreel where Jezebel was living who lost her husband Ahab in battle and had just recently lost her son when he was killed by Jehu. This evil woman then taunted Jehu from an open window calling him “Zimri” a murderer of his master! The Jezebel spirit always loves to name call and taught others and shame them. But Jehu knew he was authorized by God to destroy the entire dynasty of Ahab and leave no survivors.

Jehu called out, “Who is on my side?” and a few eunuchs looked down on him. A eunuch has been castrated and these castrated males were used to serve Jezebel. These effeminate males serve whoever is strongest so when Jehu shouted at them in bold manner, they were intimidated into following him. Instead of protecting Jezebel they were more afraid of Jehu so they obeyed him and threw Jezebel out the window!

Possibly the upper story window where Jezebel was tossed out could have been located just above the former vineyard of Naboth (which was located next to the palace). It would be a fitting end to Jezebel to shed her blood upon that same lot.

2 Kings 9:33-37 (NIV)

33 “Throw her down!” Jehu said. So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot.

34 Jehu went in and ate and drank. “Take care of that cursed woman,” he said, “and bury her, for she was a king’s daughter.”

35 But when they went out to bury her, they found nothing except her skull, her feet and her hands.

36 They went back and told Jehu, who said, “This is the word of the LORD that he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs will devour Jezebel’s flesh.

37 Jezebel’s body will be like refuse on the ground in the plot at Jezreel, so that no one will be able to say, ‘This is Jezebel.’”

Jezebel died after her husband Ahab was killed and also after her son was executed by Jehu. When she hit the ground, her blood splattered on the wall and the horses as she was trampled under their hooves. This was God requiting the blood of Naboth and his sons when both Jezebel and her own son were also having their blood spilled on the same stolen lot. After she was dead, Jezebel was not worthy to be buried but was torn apart and devoured by the wild dogs.

1 Kings 22:37-38 (NASB)

37 So the king died and was brought to Samaria, and they buried the king in Samaria.

38 They washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood (now the harlots bathed themselves there), according to the word of the LORD which He spoke.

Ahab died from an arrow wound in battle and his blood drained out on the floor of his chariot. He was taken to Samaria and buried and they washed his chariot by the pool of Samaria and here the dogs licked up his blood in similar manner to how the dogs later devoured his wife Jezebel.

The main point to emphasize here is that when a man is passive with sin then he will be the first to be judged for it. God holds the man responsible for any disorder that occurs within his own household. After the man is judged by God then his covering of authority is removed and the judgment will fall upon his widow.

In the case of Ahab and his wife Jezebel, she arranged the murders of Naboth and his sons but Ahab did nothing to stop her. So, the passivity of Ahab dropping his authority was the same as if he killed Naboth and his sons himself. God held Ahab accountable for these murders and he was judged first. After Ahab was killed then his widow Jezebel received judgment and was thrown from a high window and trampled by horses and eaten by dogs.

Ahab however delayed his judgment by humbling himself but he was still killed later because of the innocent blood that was shed. Ahab was buried but his wicked wife Jezebel was treated like dung on the ground and devoured by dogs. Possibly Ahab was buried only because he had humbled himself before God when he was rebuked by the prophet Elijah.

Genesis 9:6 (NIV)

6 “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man.

When innocent blood is shed (like the blood of Naboth and his sons who were not criminals) then that innocent blood can only be atoned for by shedding the blood of the murders. In this case, the son of Jezebel had his blood shed upon the stolen lot and Jezebel probably also had her blood shed on the same lot. Even Ahab had his blood shed in battle. It was just recompense for the innocent bloodshed of Naboth and his sons. These innocent people were killed by the passivity of Ahab who was a beta-male and allowed his wife to rule his own household.

Moses’ Passivity with Wife

Exodus 4:24-26 (NIV)

24 At a lodging place on the way, the LORD met [Moses] and was about to kill him.

25 But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin and touched [Moses’] feet with it. “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,” she said.

26 So the LORD let him alone. (At that time she said “bridegroom of blood,” referring to circumcision.)

When Moses was on the way to Egypt the Lord met him and was about to kill him. People might not understand why God wanted to kill Moses when he was already on his way to Egypt in obedience to what God told him to do.

But looking at the story more carefully it is evident that his pagan wife Zipporah must have witnessed the circumcision of their first-born son. When she saw that circumcision, she apparently told Moses that he would never do that again (to her second son when he was born). So, Zipporah probably played all of the typical feminine-tricks to remove peace from the household until her husband gave into her wishes. She may have stomped around all stiff-legged and banged pots and pans in anger and did all she could to make life uncomfortable for her husband until he yielded to her wishes.

But if a man ever gives into the wishes of his wife (through manipulation and feminine tricks) then that man has dropped his leadership and has lost his manhood.

In the case of Zipporah, she must have manipulated her husband Moses and made life difficult for him until he gave her what she wanted. She may have thrown a fit and did all of her feminine tricks to prevent Moses from circumcising their second son. Moses must have just gave up on circumcising his second son just to keep peace with his pagan wife Zipporah.

However, this omission angered God and God sought to kill Moses for breaking his covenant that every male was to be circumcised. When Moses failed to circumcise his second son then it showed that he honored his wife more than he honored God.

When Moses was on his back dying then his wife Zipporah knew why she was about to be made into a widow. This was happening because she prevented her husband from obeying God by circumcising their second son. So, Zipporah took their uncircumcised boy and preformed the circumcision herself. She then threw the bloody severed foreskin at the feet of Moses (as he was laying there dying) and said with disdain, “You are a husband of blood to me!”

This pagan woman disdained Moses her husband and also disdained his Jewish religion and disdained the rite of circumcision. As soon as the circumcision was preformed then God let Moses go and did not kill him and he recovered from nearly dying.

At this point Moses went on by himself because he realized he did not need this pagan woman resisting him from obeying God. Such disobedience could cost him his life and it is for this reason that a believing man should only marry a believing spouse (not a pagan like Zipporah).

Exodus 18:1-6 (NIV)

1 Now Jethro, the priest of Midian and father-in-law of Moses, heard of everything God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, and how the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt.

2 After Moses had sent away his wife Zipporah, his father-in-law Jethro received her

3 and her two sons. One son was named Gershom, for Moses said, “I have become an alien in a foreign land”;

4 and the other was named Eliezer, for he said, “My father’s God was my helper; he saved me from the sword of Pharaoh.”

5 Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, together with Moses’ sons and wife, came to him in the desert, where he was camped near the mountain of God.

6 Jethro had sent word to him, “I, your father-in-law Jethro, am coming to you with your wife and her two sons.”

Later when Moses was in the wilderness with more than 600,000 Jewish families he led out of Egypt, Jethro his father-in-law came to see Moses. Jethro also brought his wife Zipporah and his two sons with him. It is apparent that Moses had sent his pagan wife Zipporah back to live with her father after she nearly cost him his life by resisting him in obeying God to circumcise his second son Eliezer. It seems that Moses was never reconciled to this pagan woman Zipporah because she is not mentioned anymore in scripture and it seems she was sent back again with her father Jethro.

Again, the point to make here is that God has given authority to the man to be head of his own household. If there is any disorder under his roof (like disobeying God to please his wife) then the judgment of God will come to the man first before it comes to his wife. This was the case of Ahab who also was judged and killed first by God before the judgement fell upon his rebellious widow Jezebel. Any sin of the wife will be judged upon the head of the household first because he is in charge. After the man is removed by death then the judgment will fall upon his rebellious widow after her head covering has been removed from her.

This was the case of Ahab and Jezebel when Ahab died first then his rebellious widow was later destroyed. This also happened with Moses and God sought to kill Moses for his disobedience in not circumcising his second son. God did not try to kill Zipporah but Moses first because he has the authority in the home as a man and whatever happens is his fault because he permitted it by his passivity.

Joshua a Leader over his Household

Joshua 24:15 (NIV)

15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”

Joshua was a real man of God and he declared that as for himself and his own household they would all serve the Lord. There was not any choice in the matter because Joshua was head of his own household and everyone obeyed what he said and he demanded that they serve God as long as he lived.

Divine Chain of Command

1 Corinthians 11:3 (NASB)

3 But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.

There exists a divine chain-of-command and God is the head of Christ and Christ is the head of the man and the man is the head of the wife. Also, the parents are the head of their own children until they themselves are married and start their own households.

So, understanding spiritual principles a man must know that he is held responsible for what occurs under his own roof. He is accountable to God for any type of disorder that might exist. He is to rebuke and instruct and command and discipline his family so that they fall into line according to the divine order of God as found in biblical principles.

If any disorder exists within his household, then he will be held accountable for it. Also, he should never be shamed into relinquishing his authority within the household for any reason. If a teenager should try to shame him by saying, “Maybe when you are perfect and without sin then you can qualify to discipline me!” then this is hideous rebellion. He must know that he does not discipline his children because he is perfect. It is a satanic trick of shame if such an outlandish thing is ever uttered against him. If every parent had to be perfect before they could discipline their own children then no parent on earth would qualify. No, even if they are defected themselves and have many short-comings they are still supposed to use the rod of correction upon rebellious and disobedient children.

Proverbs 23:13-14 (NKJV)

13 Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die.

14 You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell.

The rod of correction can drive foolishness and rebellion from the heart of a wayward child and this discipline is an act of love because it can save the children from hell. Most of the men in prison were left undisciplined by a father when they were young and that is why they ruined their lives and ended up in prison.

Men must discipline their children in proper manner because God’s word commands it (not because they are perfect themselves as parents). I fear God more than humans so I used the rod of correction because I knew I would answer to God if I did not and the undisciplined child would end up in hell as a result.

Again, the main point of this lesson is to clarify that any disorder or rebellion within the household is the responsibility of the head of the household who is the man. God will hold him accountable (not the wife) so he must fear God and never compromise on any point of disorder.

Passive Parenting of Eli

1 Samuel 2:22-25 (NASB)

22 Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who served at the doorway of the tent of meeting.

23 He said to them, “Why do you do such things, the evil things that I hear from all these people?

24 “No, my sons; for the report is not good which I hear the LORD’S people circulating.

25 “If one man sins against another, God will mediate for him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him?” But they would not listen to the voice of their father, for the LORD desired to put them to death.

Eli was serving as a priest at the tabernacle of the Lord but he was a passive parent and never disciplined his sons for their bad behavior. His wicked sons even slept with the women who gathered at the doorway of the tent of meeting thus reducing the worship of God to the level of a pagan religions that combined sexual immorality together with the worship.

But even when Eli heard all of the bad things that his wicked sons were doing, he still did not reprimand them or discipline them as he should have done. His sons grew up undisciplined and even as married adults serving as priests they were still behaving in vile manner.

1 Samuel 2:12-17 (NKJV)

12 Now the sons of Eli were corrupt; they did not know the LORD.

13 And the priests’ custom with the people was that when any man offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged fleshhook in his hand while the meat was boiling.

14 Then he would thrust it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; and the priest would take for himself all that the fleshhook brought up. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.

15 Also, before they burned the fat, the priest’s servant would come and say to the man who sacrificed, “Give meat for roasting to the priest, for he will not take boiled meat from you, but raw.”

16 And if the man said to him, “They should really burn the fat first; then you may take as much as your heart desires,” he would then answer him, “No, but you must give it now; and if not, I will take it by force.”

17 Therefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD, for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

The sons of Eli were wicked men and they would seize the offerings of the people who came to worship the Lord and take them by force. Thus, they made the worship of God odious to the people by their rude behavior. This sin was very great in the sight of God because they made people abhor the offering of the Lord (which was no longer something of freewill when it was taken from them by force)!

1 Samuel 2:29-35 (NKJV)

29 Why do you kick at My sacrifice and My offering which I have commanded in My dwelling place, and honor your sons more than Me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel My people?’

30 Therefore the LORD God of Israel says: ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever.’ But now the LORD says: ‘Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.

31 Behold, the days are coming that I will cut off your arm and the arm of your father’s house, so that there will not be an old man in your house.

32 And you will see an enemy in My dwelling place, despite all the good which God does for Israel. And there shall not be an old man in your house forever.

33 But any of your men whom I do not cut off from My altar shall consume your eyes and grieve your heart. And all the descendants of your house shall die in the flower of their age.

34 Now this shall be a sign to you that will come upon your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall die, both of them.

35 Then I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who shall do according to what is in My heart and in My mind. I will build him a sure house, and he shall walk before My anointed forever.

The word of the Lord came to the young prophet Samuel and God said that he would judge the household of Eli because Eli was the head of the home but he failed to restrain his sons. Eli showed more honor for his wicked sons than he did for God. The passivity of Eli was a great sin against God. It was because Eli was passive that God moved to judge the evil himself. Both Hophni and Phinehas the two sons of Eli died on the same day and Eli also died as soon as he heard the news. Thus, all three of them were judged on the same day. Eli was judged for his passivity and his sons were judged for being wicked. This entire bunch was wiped out on the same day showing that God was not to be mocked and God held these evil sons and their passive father accountable for their sin.

Eli could have disciplined his sons himself and removed them from the priesthood but he was passive and allowed them to do whatever they wanted. His passivity with his wicked sons made the worship of God abhorrent to the people who came to worship the Lord at the tabernacle of God.

Passivity of David

1 Kings 1:5-6 (NLT2)

5 About that time David’s son Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, began boasting, “I will make myself king.” So he provided himself with chariots and charioteers and recruited fifty men to run in front of him.

6 Now his father, King David, had never disciplined him at any time, even by asking, “Why are you doing that?” Adonijah had been born next after Absalom, and he was very handsome.

The son of David’s wife Haggith was named Adonijah and he was raised in undisciplined manner by David. Never one time did David ever discipline the boy or even say, “Why are you doing that?” whenever the boy got into mischief. So, because of having no discipline this boy grew to be a wicked adult who sought to overthrow his own father and seize the throne for himself.

The same thing also happened with David’s son Absalom whose attempt to seize the throne resulted in multiplied thousands of people perishing in a civil war. It seems that David let all of his sons go wild and never disciplined any of them. One of his sons even raped the daughter of Absalom because he grew accustomed to following his every whim in undisciplined manner as a child and the same bad behavior followed him also into adult life. It appears that David was a passive father who never disciplined any of his sons and he suffered much heartache and turmoil and death within his household because his sons did not have the discipline they needed and were never corrected in their youth.

Again, whatever disorder exists within a man’s household will be judged by God because it is the man of the household who has been given the authority by God to set things in order. His family should be put into order and his sons disciplined and prepared for future leadership positions while they are still young.

The main point of this lesson is that any disorder that exists within any household is the responsibility of the man of the house. If the wife is causing disorder like Zipporah or Jezebel then the man will be held accountable for allowing it. If the children are causing disorder like the sons of Eli or the wayward sons of King David then God will judge the head of the household for that sin.

David had a good heart toward the Lord and never sinned against God but he did commit adultery and murdered another man for his wife. David also failed to discipline his own sons who caused great upheaval and civil war and much bloodshed. David was forgiven by God but nevertheless he paid for his sins with the turmoil that occurred within his own household.

God will judge sin and hold those men accountable for all disorder that occurs within their own households. Men must be aware of this principle and be sure that they fear God more than they fear their wives or children or any other humans. They have to fear God more than anything else and do what is right and put things in order within their own households according to the divine order of God.

Never should any godly man drop his leadership because this is equal to dropping his manhood like a soldier dropping his weapon in the dirt.
